Panthers Back To Winning ways; Defeat Canucks, Luongo

Panthers Insider- Brendan Taylor

The Panthers came into tonight’s game looking to erase a lackluster performance in New Jersey last Saturday in their 5-2 defeat. Tonight kicked off a 3 game home stand which features the league’s elite teams beginning with the Vancouver canucks. The Panthers controlled the tempo for the 1st few minutes until Marion Malholtra stole the puck on the blue line from Eric Gudbranson then accelerated up the ice to assist dale Weise on his 3rd goal of the season. Those would be the canucks only highlights tonight. The panthers like they have all year chipped away at the lead and came at the canucks in waves. The 2nd period belonged to the Panthers as 5 minutes in Dmitry Kulikov fired a wrist shot high on Roberto Luongo tying the game up 1-1. Then on a Dale Weise holding penalty the Panthers  Marcel Goc shot a loose puck off a rebound that just found the back of the net for the poweplay goal at 10:52  2-1 Panthers.
As the 2nd period ended the Canucks only had 2 shots on goal the whole entire 2nd period. At the beginning of the 3rd period only 31 seconds in the Panthers started on the penalty kill. The Panthers successfully killed the penalty they were 3 for 3 on the kill tonight. The Canucks put up a fight but the panthers prevailed and picked up an important 2 points and are now up 5 points on the Winnipeg jets in the south east division. This was an important win for a Panther team who has struggled of late and been banged up they re going to need more efforts like this the next 2 games with Boston and Pittsburg coming in. Big statements win over the top team in the western conference. PLAYER OF THE GAME: Marcel Goc 1 goal 1 assist
